From Faith to Faith

When you look around it is easy to grow discouraged as we see our world spiraling down into the sinkhole of sin. Try reading Romans 1:18-32. It sounds like Paul wrote those words last week. Now, just so you don’t fall into despair go back and read Romans 1:16-17, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it God’s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.”
Let’s focus on the phrase, “from faith to faith” for just a moment. Paul and the early church at Rome lived, ministered, and thrived in a culture every bit as bad and even worse than ours. I believe this was true because they lived and ministered “from faith to faith”. First, they had a rock solid faith in Jesus Christ whom they knew from eye-witness accounts and Scripture. That’s why Paul could say to Timothy, “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” Second, faith that the gospel could transform ANY life. That is why after listing the sinful practices that give evidence of an unredeemed life in 1 Corinthians 6, Paul says in verse 11, “And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
The Scripture shows us the key to living with joy and confidence in the midst of a world and culture that is crumbling around us. We live and serve “from faith to faith”. Faith in Christ’s ability to save and secure us as His children. Faith in the power of His Gospel, and the Gospel alone, to transform any sin-scarred life. In the days ahead our Faith will be attacked, but we need never by ashamed. We can live “from faith to faith.”
