4 Ways You can Intercede for the Family of God

Epaphras–now that’s a name you don’t hear everyday. He was from the church at Colossi (probably a Pastor) and he was a prayer warrior. Colossians 4:12 tells us, “Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ Jesus, greets you. He is always contending for you in his prayers, so that you can stand mature and fully assured in everything God wills.” Epaphras is a little known (mentioned only 3 times in Scripture) regular Christian whose prayer life is worth imitating. God desires us all to contend (battle) for one another in prayer.

How can we best intercede for the Family of God? Ephesians 3:14-21 gives us four prayer requests that are always appropriate for the fellow believers.

1) You can pray for strength in the inner man through the power of the Holy Spirit. V. 16

2) You can pray that Christ would be at home in a fellow believers life to provide strength and stability.
V. 17

3) You can pray for a firm grasp on the love of God through greater intimacy with Christ.
V. 18-19a

4) You can pray for a life filled to overflowing with God’s love and mercy. V. 19b

These are requests that will strengthen and bless fellow believers. They will also result in a strong church family mature and confident in their faith. A church empowered by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the gospel. Take a moment to lift up fellow believers, whomever the Spirit lays on your heart, in prayer. Follow the example of Epaphras, use the model God gave Paul, and be a prayer warrior contending for the Family of God.
