The Faithful Church Member
What does it mean to be a Church Member? As a believer, you are a member of the Universal Church–that great cloud of witnesses made up of all believers, from all times, and all places. To be a spiritually healthy and growing believer, you must be a faithful member of a specific local church–a unique expression of the Universal Church.
What does it mean to be a faithful member of a local church? The Bible says we are a part of the body of Christ and individually members of it (1 Cor. 12:27). That means we are alive in Christ and relate to one another based on our mutual relationship with Him. In Philippians 2:25 Paul speaking of Epaphroditus shows three of the ways we relate to one another in Christ. First, as Brothers and Sisters–we are members of the family of God and the local church is our household. Second, as co-workers–we are partners with God in the family business and the local church is our work crew in the here and now. Finally, as fellow soldiers–we are on God’s side in the war for men’s souls and the local church is our platoon where we get are marching orders.
To be a faithful Church Members, we must love, work, and serve together.
